What to expect...
The question often gets asked, of what to expect at a class...
I have a lot of people feeling nervous about joining a Pilates class, they ask me what to expect and tell me they are feeling nervous. Some people may feel they are not fit enough to participate or that they may struggle due to health/fitness level or other reasons.
I am not saying its going to be easy, because Pilates isn't easy! But I can say, that I will work with any individual, no matter what fitness level you are currently at and put all my heart in to making you feel comfortable.
Since starting my classes, I have met so many amazing people, everyone who has attended has been so supportive and friendly.
Its so nice to hear everyone talking and laughing from the moment they walk through the door and back out again. Also if you are more of an introvert and like to find some time for yourself, there is no pressure to chat and you can set up your mat to find some quiet time before the class begins.
When you arrive I will welcome you and ask that you fill in a class waiver form, to sign and share any medical details with me so I can be aware of. If you have any underlying health issues, I do ask that you confer with a health professional before taking part. You will then find a space for your mat and have some time to settle in before we begin. I always start the class with some breathing, to get us in the right mindset and fill our body's with fresh oxygen, we will then begin the class to some music and I will lead you through each movement and guide your breath as we go...we will finish the session with a lovely stretch.
If you need to pay, I will take cash or bank transfer payment.
I will ask how you found the class before you leave, I urge you to share your true feelings and thoughts so I know if there is anything I need to change or be aware of in future. If you have enjoyed your session(which I really hope you do!) you can book a space for your next class.
I would like you to believe in YOU. If you don't feel confident now, just make the first hardest step which will be trying something new, I assure you it won't be as scary as you may imagine. I will motivate you and push you to achieve movements, as I know you can probably do more than you think, but I will not pressure you in to movements that do not suit you or that you don't feel ready for yet. I advocate that everyone knows their own body and how they are feeling, and to let that be a guide to them through the class.
Both the venues I run my classes at are lovely venues and I have chosen them for this reason, places I can create a calming environment for students to find some peace and time for themselves.
If you have any concerns or worries, please do talk to me and we can discuss, hopefully I can put you at ease.
So please don't worry about not being fit enough or flexible enough!
Join us and meet some other likeminded people who you can share some positive energy with.
Pilates hour is time to shut off from the world and focus on your mind, body and soul, I encourage you to find this time for yourself when possible and do something to feel good...
Here is an old photo of some of the amazing ladies I have taught in the past, my students are the heart of my classes and motivate me so much!
Thanks Jessica and the group at Whitfield ( and Keele) for making me feel so welcome. Ian Bennett
